Training Review - Weeks ?? & ??

In ibiza, will sort this in a fortnight.

Preview - ITU Cross Triathlon

Friday will be my third international race this year, and my last ITU race for the season. The ITU World Cross Duathlon Age Group Championships in Ibiza. This is actually my best chance for a decent finish this year as it is a much smaller field and is likely to be a much tighter race.  There are 41 registered in my age-group for this race.  I haven't seen the course yet but I expect a fitness based bike course rather than anything particularly technical.   I have only raced one ITU Cross Triathlon before so I am basically racing against my performance from Targu Mures last year.  Here are my targets for this one: 0. Don't get injured.      This is my last race this week, but I still have a summer season to come. As with the others, I am more interested in finishing all three than doing well at one.  1. Don't crash or break the bike.     I could potentially crash but not fail at target 0. And my rear hanger is cracked and I am not s...

Preview - ITU Cross Duathlon

Wednesday will be my second international race this year. The ITU World Cross Duathlon Age Group Championships in Ibiza. This is actually my best chance for a decent finish this year as it is a much smaller field and is likely to be a much tighter race.  There are 17 registered in my age-group for this race.  I haven't seen the course yet but I expect a fitness based bike course rather than anything particularly technical.   I have only raced one ITU Cross Duathlon before so I am basically racing against my performance from Targu Mures last year.  Here are my targets for this one: 0. Don't get injured.      I still have another race after this one. I am more interested in finishing all three than doing well at one.  1. Don't crash or break the bike.     I could potentially crash but not fail at target 0. And my rear hanger is cracked and I am not sure if the replacement will arrive before I leave. Hopefully none of that will result in a ...

Preview - ITU Aquathlon Ibiza

Monday will be my first international race this year. The ITU World Aquathlon Age Group Championships in Ibiza. In terms of my personal performance, I expect on current training form to have a fairly average swim and a decent run. In terms of places I expect to be way down the field as this is by far the largest International race field I have started against. There are 51 registered in my age-group.  Here are my targets: 0. Don't get injured.      I have two other races. I am more interested in finishing all three than doing well at one.  1. Race well.      Not very specific, but basically I just want to come away without having a sulk about how I swam or ran. 2. Finish with my average percentage at this level.      I finished at 60% and 79% in my previous two ITU Aquathlons, so an average of 69.5%. That would have me finish in 35th place.  3. Finish with my best percentage at this level.         ...

Training Review - Weeks 14 & 15

I did my 20-mile pre-marathon run and then realised that I have miscalculated my 5k / month steps and could actually go straight to marathon in May rather than going 23.1 and marathon in June. I might change my plan to that but won't decide until after Ibiza. I have booked in for a couple of massage appointments before Ibiza to try and get my hip sorted as much as I can. My consultant appointment for injections is scheduled for 2 days before I fly, but will just be a consultation and not the injections.  I have managed to turn up my swim speed a little, but not really to where ti should be, and only by cutting all my sessions shorter.  And as always I have lost the will to do weights and yoga and core and so they all fall behind. Racing this coming weekend at Balmoral Duathlon. Should at least be a gauge of how my mountain biking is this year, and then fly out to Ibiza next Friday. Will hopefully do a preview post before then. Basically the fields are massive so little li...

Training Review - Weeks 12 & 13

I have had a cold for most of this fortnight, but despite that have managed to put up some decent numbers. While I fell behind on most of my big miles, I did run my second fastest 10k ever, (although it felt like I only "ran" the first 2km and last 2km and jogged the middle section, so i think there is a faster time in there. And then I followed that up with sub-19 5km at Inverurie Parkrun, (again more in the tank) and then a second place in my first every cyclecross race.  I managed to finish this year's 30 Days of Yoga in Q1, but by sacrificing all of my weights and core sessions again.  Last two weeks of Bucksburn pool coming up, then I need to come up with a plan for where to swim after that closes.   Actuals, (T arget) -  Swim 5.3  miles /  8,450m. (7.0 miles). Bike 64.8 miles. (70.0 miles).   MTB 28.0 miles. (23.3 miles). Run 34.3  miles.  (46.2 miles). 0 short core,  0   short light weights   and  0  stretching...
