Training Review - Weeks 42 & 43

So obviously, I decide to add some miles to my run and swim plans, and immediately Storm Babet turns up, closes all the pools for a week and makes it impossible to run outside. That cost me 3 swim sessions and 3 days of running and put a significant dent in my plans to clear some backlog. I managed to catch up with running in the second week, and kept the turbo and spinning sessions ticking over. I added a last minute swim session to compensate for the 3 I missed. That meant I was 50m over my target, rather than the 5-6,000m I had been planning.  I also managed a 20:23 Parkrun in a horrific wind. I figure it was probably worth a low-to-mid 19 in better weather, which is a definite improvement on how my hip is feeling since the injections.  Actuals, (T arget) -  Swim 7.1  miles / 11,300 m. (7.0 miles). Bike 85.7 miles. (70.0 miles).   MTB 0.0 miles. (23.3 miles). Run 45.8  miles. (45.6  miles). 1 short core,   1   short light weights   an...

Training Reviews - Weeks 40 & 41

So now that my racing season is effectively finished (I have some low-key things to still fit in, but nothing that matters), I have taken a chance to sit down and review where I am against my Annual Plan and what I want to do from here. Also I had my hip injections on Wednesday so I can start to rebuild the rest of my year on a revised plan where I should be able to take more volume without limping around work all day full of paracetamol and ibuprofen.  My swimming plan was already set up to increase to 3.5 miles / week from mid-Sept, but despite being on my highest miles ever for this point in the year, I am also looking to try and close a 6-mile gap to my original Annual Plan. 6 miles doesn't seem like a lot, but split over 12 weeks it basically adds 800m of swimming every week to a target that I was already struggling to hit with my 3 swim sessions. So basically a fourth swim needs to come in somewhere. Maybe not every week, but often enough to clear that backlog.  Biking I...

Training Review - Catch up to Week 39

So this is basically a reset on where I am. Students are back this week so my winter plans are back on to training with them which means more structured sessions and more constructive swimming, and races basically move to Cross Country schedule, and some Parkruns to finish out the year.  That means this week has been pretty good, but the first half of this fortnight and most of the previous 6 weeks of racing and illness have left me in a bit of a mess regarding overall numbers. There is an awful lot of red below.  I am going for my hip injections next week, and no more triathlons, or holidays, planned for the rest of the year, so hopefully that will help me to catch up with some of the volume over Q4. I think mountain bike miles are now out of reach, but everything else is just about reachable.  Actuals, (T arget) -  Swim 4.6  miles / 7,450 m. (7.0 miles). Bike 74.9 miles. (70.0 miles).   MTB 4.5 miles. (23.3 miles). Run 37.1  miles.  (37.8 miles)...
