ETU Menen - Race Review

I didn't get round to writing the text for this before it was auto-posted, so here is the briefly updated version.  I had a pretty decent swim, and then had a stitch through the entire run and struggled the whole way. Here are the results against my targets: 0. Don't get injured.      I have two other International races coming in a fortnight. I am more interested in finishing all three than doing well at one. I than have a string of smaller events coming that I don't want to miss. - Success. Have a bit of a tummy upset but don't think it is from the water, and not counting it as an injury.  1. Race well.      Not very specific, but basically I just want to come away without having a sulk about how I swam or ran. - Mild fail. Swam well, not happy with my run as I had a stitch the entire way round. 2. Finish with my average percentage at this level.      I finished at 70%, 83.3% and 73.3% in my previous three ETU Aquathlons, so an av...

Race Preview - ETU Aquathlon - Menen, Belgium

Friday will be my fourth international race this year. The ETU European Aquathlon Age Group Championships in Menen, Belgium. In terms of my personal performance, I expect on current training form to have a decent swim and a solid run but nothing spectacular from either. In terms of places I am hoping to have one of my best finishes ever at an International Aquathlon.  There are only 16 registered starters in my age-group, of which 14 are Brits. Only 3 of those on the start list finished ahead of me in Ibiza 7 finished behind me and the other 6 I haven't raced this year (although another one of them I have beaten twice pre-Covid).  Here are my targets: 0. Don't get injured.      I have two other International races coming in a fortnight. I am more interested in finishing all three than doing well at one. Training Review - Weeks 30 & 31

Bit of a lump in my training last week as I had to go for a colonoscopy. That meant a rest day, but also a couple of days either side where I wasn't allowed to eat properly and couldn't train. On the back of that I did try to do a 3k race, but was just empty when I tried to increase the pace. And then this weekend I did a parkrun, but I purposefully did a lumpy one as I wanted excuses for a slow time after spending the week doing too much.  I managed to get out on the mountain bike and get some technical work in as well as doing fitness miles on the turbo.  With two weeks to go until flying out for the ETU Aquathlon, I need to do more recovery and stretching work as well as a bit of speed work. I do have massages booked for the next two weeks to try and sort that out.  Actuals, (T arget) -  Swim 5.9  miles /  9,600m. (4.8 miles). Bike 62.9 miles. (77.7 miles).   MTB 29.0 miles. (25.9 miles). Run 39.8  miles.  (37.8 miles). 1 short core, ...
