Training Diary - Week 1 (and New Years Day)
The way I edited my tracker spreadsheet for this year has made Sunday the 1st of Jan into a whole week and the next fortnight starting on the 9th. And rather than rebuild it I am just going to roll with reporting on odd-numbered weeks this year.
I started my year by doing a Parkrun at Dundee (3rd place, 5km in 20:36, tough course), then helping officiate that same Parkrun, then doing a race in Blairgowrie in the afternoon (8th place, 3.8 miles in 24:08). I then ran every day but one, including 11 miles for my January long run for my "run 5k further every month". Each of the other runs were pretty short though so I only just clocked up a marathon for the week.
My 2023 targets work out to be an extra 800m of swimming and an extra 1.6 miles of running each week. The extra run miles should happen anyway with my plan to run a marathon distance in summer. Even without that, it is a few hundred meters on each run so it should be easy enough to complete. The swim is more of a challenge. Either I need to find an extra swim every week or add an extra 300m to every single swim for the entire year. For this week I tried both and still came up slightly short.
I came up short on the bike as well. But I did take the mtb out to a new place (White Cow Woods by Strichen) and put a few miles in. It wasn't technical, but it was off-road and had some climbing and slogging through mud in it. I had planned to put another few miles of commuting in as well but work requirements got in the way. Putting my car in for MOT tomorrow means I am forced to at least 5 miles of commuting, possibly more if it takes a couple of days to resolve any issues.
