Training Diary - Weeks 10 & 11
It has been a strange fortnight on the training front.
Having had my commuter mountain bike stolen I am not willing to expose my more expensive bikes to the same fate. I have swapped my road commuter off of the turbo but it needs a service before going outside, and my remaining 26" mob is set up for the girlfriend so not easily available as an alternative. The weather (snowy days and lots of rain) and my schedule hasn't allowed me to put in a dedicated mountain bike session anywhere. So all of my bike miles have been on the turbo, on my nice road bike. But on the flip side of that, I managed to rack up plenty of them. I need to get out on the good mountain bike in the next fortnight.
Swimming is all over the place. I still can't figure out why I am stuck at 1:40 pace for anything longer than 100m. I have tried a few style changes and put some faster swim efforts in but something isn't quite working in terms of going faster. But on the flip side of that I can churn out 2,000m at 1:42 pace on an easy and steady evening.
That is only likely to get worse as well. Next week is the last week that the students are in for this year so I lose my structured swim session on Wednesdays and with Bucksburn pool set to close in a month I have no idea how I am going to swim at all beyond that.
The snow interfered a bit with my running and meant that I couldn't really do a fast run last week. Then this week we went away for the weekend and I did Faskally Parkrun. It is 'undulating' and off-road and was cold and wet so I am quite happy to be round it in 20:47. I did manage to get in my March long run though. Up to 17.2 miles and while it wasn't quick, it was solid and no damage done.
I have Moray 10k next weekend so will be hoping to put in a fast 10k time there. It is my best chance of the year to run my sub-40 10k for my adventure plan list, but I am actually hopeful of putting in a new PB if the conditions are good.
Also one of my neighbours died this week. Wonderful older gentleman from 2 doors down. That means another funeral to go to next week.
